She obtained her degree in Biochemistry from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2014 and joined Dr. Óscar Palomares’ research group to carry out her final degree project. In 2015, she completed a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biomedicine at the Complutense University, focusing her final project on the allergenic implications of interactions between food allergens and lipids. Alba was awarded a UCM-Santander fellowship to perform her PhD in the same group. In January 2021, she defended her doctoral thesis titled “Cannabinoids and immunomodulation: Novel therapeutic strategies targeting dendritic cells for inflammatory diseases.” During her PhD, she completed a six-month research stay at the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland, under the supervision of Professor Cezmi A. Akdis. In 2022, she was awarded a Margarita Salas postdoctoral fellowship and joined the Epithelial Carcinogenesis group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) under the supervision of Professor Francisco X. Real. Currently, Alba works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the group, contributing to various projects focused on the better understanding of the mode of action of different immunomodulators such as cannabinodis or MV130 to develop novel dendritic cell-targeted vaccines for food allergy, asthma and other inflammatory-meidated diseases.
